Quick– before it gets too chilly, lets finish out summer with this super-easy-but-pretty-fancy granita! It’s only a few ingredients and the possibilities are endless. It’s tart, and sweet and kid-friendly and adult-friendly (pour some vodka in it.. my answer to everything, right?)

Decorate with some lime wedges, more grated zest or this gorgeous candied citrus peel. It’s pretty and fancy! Also you could make a version of this using just about any fruit. Watermelon might be nice? I know it’s “fall” (at least according to the calendar next week) but it was 90 degrees here over the weekend, so there’s still plenty of summer left.
Lime Granita
Ingredients:
3-4 limes
3/4 cup sugar
Zest limes and set aside. When using a zester, scrape lightly and avoid the bitter white pith. Juice limes. Set aside.
Combine sugar with 2 cups water and bring to a boil. Dissolve sugar and let thicken slightly into a syrup. Remove from heat and bring to room temperature. Add lime juice and zest. Mix well. Pour liquid into a shallow but heavy dish and place in the freezer for 2-3 hours, until it begins to freeze and scrape with a fork, mixing the mixture into a slushy mix. Re-freeze and ‘fluff’ with a for every 1-2 hours until desired texture is achieved. Serve in chilled glasses. Devour.
I don’t care that it was 35 F here today, I’d drink this with a splash of vodka in a heart beat! It looks and sounds absolutely delicious. And so easy too!
I have never made granita. This looks like the perfect dessert for a Mexican feast. Love the zing of the lime. This would have been perfect on those hot summer days we had.
This is so pretty. I have never had a granita but it looks so refreshing!
This looks so refreshing! I also have never heard of granita, I will have to try this before it gets too cold!
I’m definitely with you on a little vodka addition. I love frozen desserts all year long, so I can’t wait to give this a try!
These look so fun! Great idea for holiday parties. I’ve never made granitas but it sounds super easy, thanks!
Ha, it’s never too late to make that last summer dessert, right? I think watermelon version would be nice, too… In fact, if you had two options in front of me it would be incredibly hard to choose! ๐
Wow, I will be making this. I have limes on my kitchen table. Gorges images as well.
I love granitas so refreshing and pretty easy to make. You never go wrong with a lime flavor just add tequila and the result is a frozen margarita yummy!
I love granita! My hubby is Sicilian and there granita is eaten for breakfast with a brioche! Not with vodka of course!
Fancy. Fancy. Fancy. I love it! I wish I had came across this post when it was 100+ degrees where I live. But this will not stop me from making this recipe. Quick and easy!
this would be so good on hot summer days – I personally prefer the flavor of lime to lemon!
Yum! This looks so refreshing and easy to make. This would be a fun drink to serve at a Halloween party this month!
I never knew a granita was so simple! Perfect way to end summer if you ask me ๐
