A quick muddled cocktail that’s easy to customize. Swap out the bourbon for gin or vodka, trade blackberries for any fresh seasonal berry and choose any herbs that you have on hand.

A quick end-of-summer cocktail with endless possibilities. You can leave out the alcohol, making a mocktail or a crisp and refreshing spritzer. Make this your own and customize it to your liking, adding more or less. If you don’t have a cocktail muddler, smash your fruit and herbs in a bowl with the back of a spoon and transfer to a glass. Tear and bruise your herbs first, you’ll want to release as much of their fragrant oils as possible. The recipe that follows makes two cocktails in tall glasses.

Blackberry Smash Cocktail
- 3-6 sprigs fresh herbs
- 4 wedges lime
- 2 tbs fine sugar
- 1 heaping cup large blackberries
- 2 oz bourbon
- soda water
Split in between two tall glasses add blackberries, torn herbs, 1 piece lime (1 per glass) and one heaping spoon of sugar . Muddle and smash. Add bourbon, ice, soda (in that order). Stir quickly, garnish with extra herbs and a squeeze of another lime. Add more lime/sugar/fruit to taste, if necessary.
This look so refreshing and divine! Love muddling berries for the perfect cocktail.
